CK Group are recruiting for a Research and Development Technician to join a chemicals manufacturing company at their site based in near Harrogate on a full time, permanent basis.

The Company:

Our client is a leader in specialty materials operating in a number of countries worldwide. Their designed materials and innovations are used in daily life: vehicles, cosmetics, aeronautics, packaging, electrics and sporting goods. The R&D Technician will work within the Research and Development team and will report to the Senior Research and Development Chemist. You will focus on New Product Development within the areas of Photoinitiators, Cationic Resins and UV additives. The company offers a salary in the region of £25,000-£30,000pa, depending on experience as well as a range of benefits including pension scheme, generous holidays, group income protection, life cover and more. Please note that due to site location, the ability to drive with own vehicle is an essential requirements.Location:

The R&D Technician will be based at the company's site near Harrogate and is commutable from surrounding areas including Knaresborough, Leeds, York, Wetherby, Tadcaster.

Research and Development Technician Role:

Your main duties will be:

  • Execution of planned projects within the R&D programme, setting timelines, delivering, and reporting results in a timely manner.
  • Process scale-up and transfer from R&D to manufacturing operations, both internal and external.
  • Developing and evaluating new synthetic chemistry procedures and manufacturing processes.
  • Running routine analytical tests.
  • Providing support for internal and external manufacturing operations.
  • Sample administration, packing of samples and dispatching, liaising with the warehouse for sample transport to the lab, waste disposal.
  • Working safely; using and understanding existing COSHH and risk assessments and writing new COSHH and risk assessments for the work undertaken. Following quality procedures, safety procedure and SOPs.
  • Following the quality system along with the safety and regulatory requirements of the business.
  • The role involves external project led technical support and may require travel domestically and non-domestically as required.

Your Background:

The ideal candidate for this role will have the following skills and experience:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in Chemistry/ Materials or a related field - essential
  • Experience of Organic Synthesis would be beneficial along with a working knowledge of organic chemistry
  • Ideally but not essentially, experience of photochemistry
  • Able to drive with own vehicle - essential
