CK Group are recruiting for a Molecular Biologist II to join a leading engineering biology consultancy, to be based at their site in Edinburgh on a permanent basis.

About the company: Our client is a world class engineering biology company with an extensive range of proprietary enabling technologies in microbial strain and mammalian cell-line engineering, protein production, fermentation and bioprocess development. Their cell platforms underpin competitive bioprocesses implemented worldwideby their customers and collaborative partners to manufacture (bio)pharmaceuticals, enzymes, chemicals, consumer products and sustainable fuels.

For this role, our client is looking for a Molecular Biologist II with good knowledge in Microbiologyand Biochemistry. The role will involve proactively generating and implementing new ideas within workplans for customer projects, and actively contributing in team meetings by discussing, troubleshooting and planning experiments.

About you: To be considered for the position, you should ideally have the following skills and expertise:

  • Entry level PhD or Masters level with industrially-relevant post-graduation experience, or BSc with over 3 years of industrially-relevant post-graduationexperience in Molecular Biology/Biochemistry/Industrial Biotechnology (or closely aligned subject)
  • Good knowledge and relevant laboratory experience in molecular biology techniques such as electroporation, PCR, cloning methods (Gibson Assembly, Golden Gate, traditional endonuclease/ligase reactions, etc.), electrophoresis and aseptic techniques.
  • Good knowledge and relevant laboratory experience of recombinant protein purification and analysis methods such as affinity, ion exchange and sizeexclusion chromatography (ideally using the ÄKTA system), SDS-PAGE and Western Blot analysis.

The location:

The successful candidate will be embedded within a dynamic, sociable team in a lab-based role with flexible working hours. This position will be based at brand new facilities at the Roslin Innovation Centre where there are regular bus links to the City Centre, free on-site parking, an on-site gym and several on-site cafes – the perfect setting to meet colleagues over a coffee in view of the Pentland Hills.
