Sarah speaks about how the chemicals industry plays a key role in contributing to the pharmaceuticals, medical devices and biotechnology industries. From producing the raw materials for use in manufacturing products, to offering analytical services used in areas such as quality control and product development.
As such there are lots of opportunities to move between industries, where there is a lot of cross over between job roles, such as:
- All manufacturing companies will employ staff in quality control, often these positions will be lab based, using similar instrumental and analytical techniques.
- Skills in research and development in areas such as formula design are relevant to companies as diverse as coatings through to nutraceuticals.
- Many manufacturing companies will use similar processes, so process engineers and process chemists can move, for example between the biopharmaceutical and chemicals industry.
