CK Group are recruiting for a Shift Laboratory Technician to join an analytical testing company at their site based in Abingdon on a full time, permanent basis.

The Company: Our client is a global testing service provider who are ISo18001 and UKAS accredited, and they currently have a vacancy for a Laboratory Technician to join their team on a shift basis. The successful candidate will analyse samples and perform routine analysis. The company offers a salary in the range of £20-22,000 depending on experience as well as shift allowance. The shifts will rotate weekly: 6am-2pm and 2pm-10pm. Benefits include 24 days' holiday + bank holidays, pension, life assurance, health insurance and small performance bonuses amongst other benefits.Location: The Lab Analyst will be based at the company's site in Abingdon, easily commutable from surrounding areas including Oxford and Didcot.

Your main duties will be to:

  • Analyse samples in accordance with appropriate analytical test procedures as required by the customer.
  • Ensure samples are processed within turnaround times as agreed with customers to maintain high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Perform SQC analysis ensuring any failures are recorded and investigated with appropriate action taken and recorded.
  • Support Laboratory Manager to confirm all safety requirements including risk assessments are in place and up to date to ensure the safe operation of the laboratory.
  • Conduct housekeeping tasks within the laboratory such as stocking up of consumables, disposal of waste and communication to Laboratory manager of any concerns or stock levels that are running low to ensure the good level of service is not disrupted.
  • Help identify and support any trainingneeds to build relevant skills and ensure individual Training Records /Training Matrix are kept up to date.
  • Work with Laboratory manager to optimise testing and equipment capabilities to best serve the needs of the customer.

Your Background: The ideal candidate for this role will have the following skills and experience: Essential:

  • A Levels or equivalent in Science/ Mathematics/ English grades A to C
  • Knowledge of analytical testing activities
  • Able to organise and prioritise workload
  • Good communication skills – both verbal and written.
  • Able to adopt a flexible approach to work and react effectively to a rapidly changing environment.
  • Able to work under own initiative and with a high degree of autonomy & maturity.Desirable:
  • Experience of working in a testing laboratory, following industry standard methods.
  • Knowledge of IT systems, particularly MS Office applications.
  • Experience in a service industry related to the petro-chemical industry.
  • Experience of working within a UKAS laboratory
  • First degree or equivalent in chemistry i.e. BSc/ HNC.
  • Full and valid driving licence for the UK
  • Working knowledge for compentent use of LIMS IT systems
